Minister opposes PWD bill, 2018

By Ritah Kemigisa.

The Member of Parliament for Persons with Disabilities Safia Nalule has added voice to those opposed the PWD bill 2018 labeling it a bad law.

Nalule tells KFM that the bill in its current nature is political and ignores the real issues of economic, social, cultural and human rights which affect persons with disabilities.

She adds that the bill does not clearly outline the role of government in ensuring a fair environment for PWDs and that no penalties for the offenders are given.

Nalule has now appealed to the gender committee which is currently scrutinizing the bill to ensure it conforms to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities before its passed by parliament.
